AI, AI, AI Everywhere…

There is a much discussion on LinkedIn and elsewhere about artificial intelligence (AI) and how it will change the world.  It is anticipated that AI will provide significant growth in labor productivity (Filippucci, 2024) and contribute over $631 billion by 2028 (IDC, 2024). We believe that AI is a crucial and emerging topic. However, we also know that the AI systems do not fall from the sky. They are developed in projects. With the help of several experts in the field, we developed and conducted multiple surveys to gain a deeper understanding of AI projects.

In August, we presented the first article resulting from our research at the IEEE TEMSCOM Global Conference in San Diego. It focused on the level of automation of AI systems and the accountabilities of the project teams developing those systems. The article was well-received, and we were awarded the Best Paper award. At the conference, we co-chaired the Education & Knowledge Management stream with Prof. Dr. Johannes Kern.

Sunday, September 14, we will present the second article in Krakow, Poland at the 20th Conference on Computer Science and Intelligence Systems (FedCSIS 2025).  The article investigates the simultaneous pursuit of accountability for regulatory compliance, financial benefits, and societal impacts within AI projects for autonomous and non-autonomous AI systems.  At the conference, we will co-chair the Information Technology for Business and Society (ITBS) stream with Ewa W. Ziemba.

In December, we will make a presentation on the “Accountability Mechanisms in Artificial Intelligence Projects: A Quantitative Study in Practice”, at ICAIR, 5th International Conference on AI Research, 11-12 December 2025, University of Genova, Italy.

Each article takes a unique perspective on understanding what occurs in AI projects. The articles provide an important, evidence-based foundation for AI accountability, connecting theoretical concepts with practical governance tools.

All of our work is published Open Access after each conference and can be downloaded via Google Scholar or other platforms. If you cannot access it, please let us know and we will gladly share a copy with you.
