Research, Recognition and Collaboration at FedCSIS 2026

Last week, I had the privilege of participating in the FedCSIS 2026 Conference Series at Riga Technical University in Latvia.

As always, FedCSIS was exceptionally well organised, with outstanding presentations, keynote speeches and panel discussions. With only 15% of submissions accepted as full papers, the quality of the research presented was extremely high.

Our participation included:

• Presenting our paper, “An Empirical Analysis of Governance, Performance Control, Delivery, and Misconduct Management”

• Receiving the prestigious Professor Zdzisław Pawlak Industry Cooperation Award

• Facilitating, on behalf of Ewa Ziemba and together with Christian Leyh, the Information Technology for Business and Society (ITBS) stream.

I am deeply proud and honoured that our work received an award bearing Professor Pawlak’s name.

Professor Pawlak was a pioneering Polish computer scientist and the founder of rough set theory, one of Poland’s most internationally recognised contributions to computer science and artificial intelligence. I first became fully aware of the importance of his work at the FedCSIS conference in Warsaw in 2023, where an entire stream brought together leading international researchers in rough set theory.

Receiving this award is a highlight of my professional career. I am both humbled and grateful for this recognition from the FedCSIS community.

The combined ITBS and Information Systems Management streams featured ten presentations covering topics such as:

• Low-code and no-code adoption
• LLM-supported automated valuation models
• User-experience methodology and digital accessibility
• Inclusive industrial interface design
• E-banking service selection
• Blockchain-supported anomaly detection for open-banking fraud

Congratulations to Paul Rozbitski, Moritz Fabius Zeitfuchs and Christian Leyh, who received the Best Paper Award in the ITBS stream for their paper, “Critical Success Factors for Low-Code/No-Code Adoption in Enterprises and Public Institutions.”

Riga Technical University provided an impressive setting, combining a long academic tradition with one of the most modern university buildings I have visited in recent years. Riga itself was equally memorable. The people were warm and welcoming, while the evening events at the Riga Circus and the House of the Blackheads offered wonderful opportunities to experience the city’s history and culture.

My sincere thanks to Marcin Paprzycki, Maria Ganzha, Dominik Ślęzak, Marek Bolanowski, Oksana Nikiforova and their teams for the excellent organisation and warm hospitality.

It was also a pleasure to exchange ideas with both familiar and new colleagues, including Alexander Kammeyer, Christian Leyh, Sylvia Melzer, Thomas Asselborn, Luz Bernal, Paul Rozbitski and Aina G. Irbe.

I look forward to continuing these conversations and collaborations.
